Description

The 6265 is the prized 6263’s metallic bezelled twin

The Rolex 6265 is a vintage Daytona reference from what is called the first series. This series runs from 1963 to 1987 and comprises all of the four-digit Daytona references. All of these references are manual wind, in contrast with the automatic movements of the second and third series. First series Daytonas are very highly valued on the used market, and there have been some exceptional sales for the 6265.

The twin of the 6265 is the 6263. These are almost the same watch, save for the bezel. Where the 6265 has a metallic bezel, the 6263 has a metallic bezel with black acrylic insert. The 6263 is generally more highly valued largely due to its bezel, as black bezel Daytonas currently tend to be more popular with collectors.

It has a 37mm case and a Valjoux 727 movement. From its release up to around 1980 it had a ‘Tropic 21’ domed plexiglass crystal. 6265s produced after this came with standard plexiglass. Over its production history it has come with the Twinlock 700 crown, and the Triplock 701, 702, and 703 crown.

The 6265 comes either with a standard or Paul Newman dial. The Paul Newman dials have the same configurations as the 6263, that is either a 2-colour oyster with white dial, or a 3-colour ‘RCO’ with black dial.

More Info on Rolex 6265’s Movements…

The Rolex 6265 comes with a Valjoux 727 movement. The 727 is one of the classic Rolex chronograph movements. It was based on the Valjoux 726, but for Rolex chronographs the 727 is the true heir of the 722-1. It is a manual wind, 17 jewel movement with a power reserve of 48-hours.
